# Frequently asked questions

### What is actuatorlist?

A free, open directory of robot actuators: 80 actuators from 31 brands in 6 categories, plus 22 robots with the motor in each joint. Every entry lists peak and rated torque, weight, torque density, price where public, and the sources the numbers came from.

### Which actuators suit a quadruped leg?

Usually quasi-direct-drive (QDD) motors or low-ratio integrated joints, because they are backdrivable and survive impacts. Among entries tagged for quadruped legs, the highest torque density belongs to DM-J6248P-2EC (DAMIAO (DMBots)), DM-J10010-2EC (DAMIAO (DMBots)), RobStride 04 (RobStride).

### Which actuators suit a humanoid joint?

Integrated joints and QDD motors with enough peak torque for hips and knees. Among entries tagged for humanoid joints, the highest torque density belongs to DM-J6248P-2EC (DAMIAO (DMBots)), DM-J10010-2EC (DAMIAO (DMBots)), RMD-X8-120 (MyActuator).

### Which actuators give the most torque per dollar?

Among entries with a public USD price, the lowest price per Nm of peak torque belongs to RobStride 04 (RobStride), DM-J10010-2EC (DAMIAO (DMBots)), DM-J6248P-2EC (DAMIAO (DMBots)).

### How reliable are the specs?

Each entry links its sources. Entries marked verified were spot-checked against manufacturer pages or datasheets; the rest are flagged unverified. Confirm critical numbers against the datasheet before you buy.

### Do I need an account or API key?

No. The site, the REST API at https://actuatorlist.com/api and the MCP server at https://actuatorlist.com/mcp are public and read-only. There are no accounts, no keys and no fees.

### How do I add or correct an actuator?

Open an issue or a pull request on GitHub at https://github.com/Miyamura80/getactuators. The dataset lives in the repository. The code is published under the MIT License and the dataset under CC BY 4.0.
